There are lots of resources online to help you which you will find links to on this page. And we can go over anything you are unsure of during your driving lessons.
What to expect from your theory test
The theory test is a computer based test, please don't worry if you aren't good with computers as the adjudicator will go through what to do on the day. The test is broken down in to two parts...
1. Multiple choice questions
You will have 57 minutes to answer 50 questions on the highway code. This should be plenty of time so please don't rush and make sure you read each question correctly. You will need to answer at least 43 questions to pass this part.
2. Hazard awareness
After a short break you will then begin the hazard awareness section. This is in the form of short one minute videos there are 14 in total. You will be required to click your mouse when you see a hazard developing. Each video has one hazard to look for with the exception of 1 which has 2 hazards. Each hazard is worth 5 points (75 total) and you will need to score at least 44 points to pass this section.
You will need to pass both parts on the day to be successful, don't worry if you don't pass first time you can take the test as many times as you need. Hopefully this won't be the case for you as the key to success is preparation. With that in mind here are some useful resources to help you prepare.
You can practice both parts of the test for free on the official government website here. The multiple choice part of the test is based on the following 3 books which are available to buy in most good book stores and online.
Online Theory Test Booking Advice
You will find that there are plenty of website offering a booking service for your theory test but don't fall for it. Most charge inflated prices and are not always genuine. The only website you need to visit to book your theory test is the official GOV.UK website.
